It was a chilly start on Sunday in the New York City area, with temperatures dropping into the 30s and even 20s in the suburbs. A frost advisory was issued until 9 a.m. for several counties.
As the day progresses, the risk of wildfire development will be low due to increased humidity values. However, breezy conditions later in the day may slightly elevate the risk.
The onshore flow will also bring cooler temperatures compared to Saturday, with highs stuck in the 50s for most areas. Morning sunshine will give way to more clouds in the afternoon.
A stray shower is possible, primarily north of the city. High levels of tree pollen will persist throughout the day.
Sunday night
Breezy conditions and cloud cover will continue through Sunday night, with temperatures staying relatively mild in the upper 40s to around 50.
Warmup starts Monday
A significant warmup is expected from Monday onwards, with summer-like temperatures in the 80s dominating the Eastern Seaboard for most of the week.
Despite cloudy skies, Monday’s highs will reach the mid to upper 70s, with some interior sections of New Jersey possibly hitting 80 degrees. Coastal areas are likely to only reach the low 60s.
Light showers may occur in the afternoon and evening, accompanied by strong winds between 25-40 mph, leading to an increased risk of wildfires.
Looking ahead
High temperatures in the 80s are forecasted away from the coast from Tuesday to Thursday, with muggy conditions at times. Peak heat is expected on Wednesday and Thursday, with potential record highs and some inland areas reaching 90 degrees.
Rainfall chances remain low throughout the week, with sporadic showers and thunderstorms possible.
