As Windrose prepares to set sail in Early Access on PC, many console players are hoping to join the adventure. Discover all the official information regarding the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch versions of this highly anticipated pirate game.
A release planned for PlayStation 5?
For owners of the Sony console, the answer may be disappointing. Windrose will not be released on PS5 at the same time as the PC version. This choice is explained quite logically by the very nature of the project, the game is only at the beginning of its early access.
According to developers’ forecasts, this testing and refinement phase could last at least two years. Bringing a constantly evolving title to a platform like the PlayStation 5 represents a colossal technical and financial challenge for an independent studio. It is in fact much more complex to deploy weekly updates on console than on PC. We will therefore have to wait for version 1.0, the final release, to hope to see the black flag flying on Sony machines.
What about the Xbox Series versions?
The observation is identical for the Microsoft ecosystem. Windrose won’t be available on Xbox Series X|S when it initially launches and nothing has been announced. Historically, if an independent game of this scale skips a console during its early access, it is rare for it to land on direct competition at the same time.
However, nothing is set in stone for the future. Third-person action-adventure gameplay Windrose lends itself perfectly to handling with a controller. Once the title is stabilized and rich in content, an arrival in the Xbox catalog (or even integration into Game Pass) remains a credible possibility, although it is not on the agenda for the moment. Knowing that Xbox offers the Game Preview program, which hosts games in early access, it is possible that Windrose arrives on this platform before the launch of 1.0.

The case of the Nintendo Switch 2
Without much surprise, Windrose does not plan a release on Nintendo Switch 2 in the short term. The scale of the persistent world, the density of the islands to explore and the technical gluttony of the naval confrontations make a port to the current hybrid console extremely complex, if not impossible without major compromises.
In short, yes Windrose arrives in early access on PC, and ports are potentially possible on consoleswe will have to wait for the arrival of 1.0, but also hope that the title is a success, otherwise these versions risk very quickly being forgotten.
