The project to modernize higher education reaches a new stage, with the organization today, at the University of Algiers 1, Benyoucef Benkhedda, of a national strategic meeting devoted to the transition to the fourth generation university, placed under the aegis of Kamel Baddari, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. This was stated yesterday in a press release from the ministry.

Hosted by Rector Amar Haiahem, this meeting brings together representatives of pilot universities engaged in this model, members of the national commission for the transition to university 4.0 as well as leading institutional and international partners. It is part of the deployment of the University 4.0 master plan, which works to ensure the progressive and structured change of the national university landscape. Thus, through this initiative, the academic authorities are drawing the contours of an in-depth transformation of the university system.

As a prelude to the meeting, the president of the national commission, Professor Nawal Abdellatif Mami, indicated that this approach is part of a global vision with the objective of modernizing structures and practices. The digitalization of university infrastructures and services is at the top of the priorities, accompanied by a transformation of teaching practices. This involves adapting teaching methods to contemporary requirements, by further integrating digital tools and interactive approaches. At the same time, the adoption of governance based on the use of data constitutes a structuring lever to improve decision-making and management of establishments.

From this perspective, the university is called upon to occupy a central place in the innovation ecosystem, in close connection with economic dynamics. The creation of value, the development of impact projects and the encouragement of the entrepreneurial spirit are gradually emerging as key orientations.

The international dimension also occupies a notable place in this approach. The participation of UNIMED, represented by its director Marcello Scalisi, testifies to this openness. This Euro-Mediterranean network, which brings together 186 universities, offers a structured framework for academic, scientific and institutional exchanges.

In this context, European universities, particularly in Spain and Italy, have been identified as reference partners. Their contribution will focus on the sharing of expertise, the evolution of training content and the launch of joint programs, in a logic of gradual convergence of academic standards.

On the sidelines of this meeting, a progress update will be presented on the progress of the various projects undertaken, accompanied by a projection on the expansion of the University 4.0 model to other establishments across the country.

In the medium term, this dynamic should sustainably mark the transformation of the Algerian university system and consolidate its place in regional and international academic networks. It should be noted that through this initiative, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research confirms its desire to make University 4.0 a engine of modernization, in line with global changes in knowledge and innovation.
