This Wednesday 1st April, Donald Trump claims to have asked France for help in unblocking the Strait of Hormuz. The phone call was fruitless, and the American president complained about it at a press conference at the White House.
Another jab from the White House. American president Donald Trump once again attacked Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday 1st March, in a speech a few hours before his address to the American nation.
The US president referred to the blow delivered by Brigitte Macron to the face of the French president in May 2025, during a tour of Southeast Asia.
“His wife treats him very badly, he is barely recovering from the punch he received in the jaw,” he taunted.
“Could you send warships?”
The purpose of this conversation between Donald Trump and Emmanuel Macron was – according to the White House tenant – to obtain France’s help in seizing the Strait of Hormuz, where maritime traffic is blocked by the Islamic Republic of Iran.
“Emmanuel, we would like some help in the Gulf, even if we break all records, eliminate the bad guys, and destroy ballistic missiles (…). Could you send warships immediately?” Donald Trump reportedly demanded.
But according to the American president, Emmanuel Macron refused, replying that France could send warships “once the war is won.” A refusal that Donald Trump does not accept and to which he says he responded, “No, no, I don’t need it when the war is over, Emmanuel.”
Donald Trump stated a few hours later that the Strait of Hormuz was not his problem. “If France or any other country wants its oil or gas, they will go straight into the Strait of Hormuz (…) and they will fend for themselves,” the American leader declared. “We have nothing to do with it. What happens in the strait is not our concern.”
Emmanuel Macron reiterated on Wednesday that France had “not been consulted” on the launch of the war by the United States and Israel against Iran and that France was “not participating.”
