On Tuesday, April 7th at 8:00 pm, at Pierre-Satgé Hall, the League of Human Rights Colomiers West Toulouse is organizing a conference on the theme: “One year of Trump’s presidency, are the United States still a democracy?”

“Donald Trump was inaugurated as President of the United States in January 2025, remind the organizers of this conference. Since taking office in the White House for a second term, he has been working to deeply undermine the country’s democratic system, with the help of the Republican Party, Christian shareholders, and his supporters among the wealthiest people in the world. The attacks are numerous and fierce: takeover of civil society, violation of voting rights, birthright citizenship questioned, law enforcement deployed massively in cities, unbridled oligarchs, multiplied imperial wars, etc. One year after Trump’s rise to power, and six months before the midterm elections, it is time to take stock of this country’s drift towards an authoritarian regime.”

Michael Stambolis-Ruhstorfer, master of conferences in American civilization at the Department of Anglophone World Studies at Toulouse-Jean Jaurès University, a sociologist, returning from a research trip to the United States, will provide his insights.
