  • The war in Ukraine began more than four years ago.
  • Russia continues its numerous bombings.
  • But for the first time and for several reasons, the Russian army recorded no territorial gain in March and sometimes even fell back.

It has been 1,500 days, four years, since the war broke out in Ukraine. And since the first hours, these same images of desolation. Moscow is still continuing its bombings, particularly in the east of the country and even on Kiev. Again during the night from Friday to Saturday, a large Russian drone attack hit Ukraine. A strike on a market in the town of Nikopol left five people dead and 19 injured, according to local authorities.

But according to data provided by the Institute for the Study of War, the front line of more than 1,000 km has not really evolved for a month. Russia has thus recorded no territorial gain in Ukraine in March 2026. The Russian army has sometimes even retreated. This has not happened since 2023 in certain sectors.

Ukrainian counter-offensives are increasingly effective, Russia is unable to use Starlink terminals, these ultra-fast satellites, and access to encrypted Telegram messaging is also restricted, even though it is widely used on the front by Russian soldiers. But Moscow still occupies around 19% of Ukrainian territory, the majority of which was acquired during the first weeks of this conflict.

Volodymyr Zelensky is still trying to find a solution.
