In an era marked by rapid technological progress and changing tactics of warfare, the 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) is at the forefront of a significant shift towards multidomain operations. The Group is overhauling its legacy Military Intelligence Company (MICO) to establish a robust Multidomain Operations (MDO) Company, enhancing Special Operations capabilities and promoting integration across the force.
This restructuring aligns with the Army’s modernization efforts, consolidating intelligence and electronic warfare capacities within a unified company. Under this new structure, the Multidomain Company assumes greater responsibility for training signals intelligence (SIGINT) and electronic warfare (EW) personnel. Capt. Andrew Reynolds, the company’s commander, highlights the transfer of the Advanced Collection Training Team (ACTT) as a key initiative streamlining training for SIGINT and EW assets.
As the MDO Company embraces its evolving role, it draws on foundational intelligence practices from the 1980s to analyze current global events and inform effective countermeasures against near-peer threats in large-scale combat. Despite ongoing advancements in warfighting systems, the Company continues to seek solutions to integrate intelligence capabilities with joint partners more efficiently to support the targeting process with real-time data.
To enhance collaboration and integration efforts, Reynolds and his team are collaborating with Army Corps-level commands to conduct comprehensive training and explore the application of artificial intelligence for data analysis. The Company is also undergoing certification training to meet the Army’s evolving demands for combat readiness and stability operations, tailoring its approach to unconventional warfare in a modern context.
As the special operations community undergoes rapid transformation, the 3rd Special Forces Group’s unique approach to multidomain operations not only addresses the Group’s specific needs but also contributes to broader objectives in frontline intelligence solutions. Through this transition, the MDO Company aims to lead the way in innovative intelligence solutions, ensuring readiness to confront future challenges within the Joint Force.
