A new defense system against drones, which includes a direct energy weapon or anti-drone laser, has been installed near Palm Beach International Airport in West Palm Beach, Florida. The addition of this technology, confirmed by WPTV’s Michael Hoffman, serves as a recent measure to counter the increasing threats of drone warfare in the vicinity of the president’s residence.
With drones becoming a common feature in modern warfare scenarios from Ukraine to Iran, military experts are emphasizing the importance of implementing such technology at civilian airports.
Matthew “Whiz” Buckley, a Navy Top Gun aviation school graduate, explained that the device is equipped to detect, disrupt, and deploy a direct energy weapon—such as a laser beam invisible to the naked eye—to neutralize threats before they can pose a danger to the president, Mar-a-Lago, or civilian aircraft. Buckley highlighted the various sensors, radar, and jammers utilized to detect and combat drone and aerial threats.
Aviation specialist Dewitt Ingram emphasized the mobile nature of the defense system, which can be swiftly set up within hours. He predicted a widespread deployment of similar systems at civilian airports nationwide in the near future, clarifying that they do not interfere with civilian air traffic.
Ingram noted that Palm Beach airport, especially due to its proximity to the president’s residence, remains one of the safest locations for air travel. When asked about the sudden visibility of the technology, he attributed it to a heightened level of threats against the president, highlighting the defensive stance adopted by the US military to safeguard American freedoms and protect the president.
The installation of the anti-drone defense system reflects a strategic response to evolving threats and underscores ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of critical establishments and individuals in the region.
