The National Federation of Nursing Students (FNESI) Launches ESI’mêtre Tool to Evaluate Training Conditions
Amid concerns of degraded training conditions, as seven out of ten nursing students consider dropping out, the National Federation of Nursing Students (FNESI) has introduced ESI’mêtre, a self-assessment tool for evaluating the quality of the training environment.
Mental health, a major focus in 2025 and renewed in 2026 by the government, highlights the challenges faced by nursing students. Statistics show that over a hundred ESI students contact FNESI monthly via email, and daily, more than 10 students call the FNESI helpline. In 2025, seven out of ten students surveyed had considered quitting the nursing program.
ESI’mêtre, the self-assessment tool for evaluating the training environment, aims to address the mental health issues faced by students. This tool helps identify quality issues in the training received by students who are often unaware of the systemic problems.
The deteriorating training conditions for nursing students must be addressed, prevented, treated, and sanctioned. Students require better support.
With seven out of ten nursing students contemplating dropping out, it is crucial to raise awareness among educational stakeholders about the challenges nursing students face. As the push to train more students leads to a decline in quality and normalization of unacceptable situations, this tool, developed from regular well-being surveys by FNESI, sheds light on the struggles of many students. It assesses the training environment of nursing students. Educational stakeholders must take action against such challenges. Let’s work together for the future professionals’ training conditions!
The future caregivers should not be sacrificed.
ESI’mêtre is a step taken by FNESI, but concrete actions are needed for the well-being of nursing students. As a reform in training approaches, gaps persist between nursing students and those in university campuses. Ensuring equal access to university services for all nursing students would be a significant improvement in their well-being.
FNESI stresses the need for equal access to university for all higher education students.
