This new Danish thriller has gone unnoticed, yet it works so well that it will be adapted for Netflix soon.
Netflix allows us to see what marked the eras of other countries. Thanks to its classification, we can also see series of productions on which we would not have bet. For example, during confinement, everyone was addicted to an ultra-moving Turkish series. But the Netflix platform has also taught us to appreciate Scandinavian series. Without knowing it, we sometimes watch series inspired by real events or bestsellers from other countries.
Si l’on a regardé la série October in 2021, we watched a Scandinavian mini-series inspired by one of the biggest Danish literary successes of 2019. Over time, we became more interested in Scandinavian thrillers and thrillers in our bookstores. By Jo Nesbø Jussi Adler-Olsenwe loved the cold, violent and slow intrigues of these authors. However, we are not yet experts on the subject. Here is a book from a succès
Netflix danois that we will love!
What thriller is it?
We’re lucky, as soon as it was released, the book was already translated into French. However, if we waited for the sequel to October, aka The Chestnut Manwe had to arm ourselves with a lot of patience. Indeed, the best-selling Danish book was released in 2019, its Netflix version in 2021, and the second version in 2025. Some therefore waited for
6 ans the rest of the story. But the wait was worth it! Indeed, the thriller does all the same
700 pages. The latter is called
Hide and Seekof Søren Sveistrup.
Released in October 2025 in France, it really didn’t make much of a splash. However, he was eagerly awaited in his country of origin, Denmark. Even if it did not have the same global effect as the first (the wait had a lot to do with it), it still found itself in the Danish bestsellers, the best-selling thrillers and the top of the best thrillers in the country.
What is this new thriller about?
Clearly the summary doesn’t tell us much. However, it refers to the songs that we heard in the October series, which tended to make us shiver. He says: “One, two, we’re going to play a game. It all starts with a
innocent nursery rhyme that children sing when they play hide and seek… Three four, I’m going to beat you like a plaster. To suddenly turn into a nightmare… Five, six, the game must end. And awaken the memory of a bloody past.” We know that we find the same duo of police officers there.
Un grand succès critique pour le livre de Søren Sveistrup
It’s still too early for him to already receive awards. However, readers loved reading the novel. Most didn’t even feel the 700 pages go by. With 4.33/5 on Babelio with 90 5-star reviews compared to 59 reviews for all other ratings combined, we have a
large majority of favorites.
“This game of hide and seek may initially seem harmless. But a game which very quickly becomes macabre and the murders follow one another without our duo being able to stop this murderous madness… A devilishly well constructed ploton a simple but very clever idea. The author takes us into a thriller breathtakinga truly distressing story. The chapters follow one another in a terrifying suspense, the tension rises crescendo, until the moment when the author comes to put a lot of pressure with a incredible turnarounda revelation which will completely redistribute the certainties of our two investigators. Absolutely brilliant.”
