Numéro 1 du Top 10 de Netflix, la série norvégienne
Harry Hole disconcerted many subscribers with its last episode. In nine tense chapters, this thriller sets up a broken investigator, a series of ritual murders in Oslo and a model colleague. Then the finale suddenly changes the reading of the entire investigation.

Adapted from the fifth novel of His Nesbø,
The Devil’s Starseason 1 follows Inspector Harry Hole, his partner Rakel Fauke and her son, Oleg Fauke, at the heart of an affair which invades their private lives. Posted online on March 26, 2026, the series leaves many elements open. Here is how this ending is constructed, beware of spoilers.

Harry Hole: who is really the killer in the finale?

At the start, everything suggests a serial killer: several women are found in Oslo, one finger amputated, marked by a red diamond in a pentagram. The number five comes up everywhere and the police quickly target the arms trafficker Martin Aminov. For investigators, he is a methodical murderer obsessed with a complex ritual.

But the end reveals another scenario: the real responsible is
Willy Barleyhusband of the first victim. Indeed, after his wife’s betrayal with Martin Aminov, he decides to kill her and concocts a series of fictitious crimes to incriminate the trafficker. However, unmasked by Harry Hole, Willy Barli tries to flee, falls from a building and dies, without explaining everything.

Tom Waaler: the real threat of the end of Harry Hole

Once the fake killer is identified, the story now focuses on Tom Waller. Charismatic colleague already suspected of corruption. Indeed, the last episode confirms that he heads a criminal network inside the Oslo police. To force Harry Hole to join him, Tom Waaler kidnaps Oleg Fauke and prepares a trapped face-to-face meeting where several witnesses must disappear.

The trap backfires: Harry Hole manages to handcuff him in a moving elevator, which causes serious injuries. Tom Waaler, for his part, succumbed shortly after. A secret meeting then shows that the network of corrupt police officers remains active. His superior Agnes Sjölid (Agnes Kittelsen) appears as a key figure and discreetly seeks to attract Harry Hole into this system.

Rakel, Oleg and a season 2: what the ending suggests

At the same time, Harry Hole closes an old robbery case where a murder had been disguised as an opportunistic crime, which alleviates part of his guilt. On an intimate level, the investigation into Willy Barli and the confrontation with Tom Waaler strengthened his ties with Rakel Fauke and Oleg Fauke. We find them reunited, with the hope of a more stable life.

The season ends with this lull, as the corrupt network chooses to pause its activities rather than abandon them. Harry Hole remains in post, aware of being observed and approached. No season 2 of Harry Hole has yet been announced, but the presence of Agnes Sjølid and this intact system leave the door ajar.
