The program (source in English) launches the summer season for young people born between July 1, 2007 and June 30, 2008, offering them the opportunity to discover the heritage and history of Europe while meeting other travelers sharing the same interests across the continent.

Successful candidates will be able to travel across Europe using the most environmentally friendly modes of transport, including train, for a maximum of seven days over a period of one month, between July 1, 2026 and September 30, 2027.

Young people, whether they are citizens or residents of the European Union, overseas countries and territories associated with the EU or third countries associated with the Erasmus+ program, including Iceland and Türkiye, can apply.

The DiscoverEU program allows young people “to experience Europe by train, discover new cultures and better understand the values we share,” said Glenn Micallef, Commissioner for Intergenerational Equity, Youth, Culture and Sport.

“For many, it is also the first opportunity to travel independently and meet people from all over Europe. HAS”

Micallef added that this year’s edition is placed under the sign of solidarity and equity. It also coincides with the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of the creation of the Schengen area, which allows travelers to move freely between 29 Schengen states, including 25 EU member states and four non-EU countries: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.

Where will this journey take you?

Through the program’s pre-established DiscoverEU cultural itinerary, pass holders can explore different destinations, whether their interests lie in architecture, music, fine arts, theater, fashion and design, folk art or local gastronomy.

Some destinations have been designated by the European Commission (EC) as European Capitals of Culture, including Cork in Ireland and Valletta in Malta.

Other cities, such as Lyon in France, have won the Access City award from the European Commission, which rewards efforts to ensure accessibility for all, regardless of age, ability or mobility. DiscoverEU also encourages young people to imagine their own discovery routes.

Successful applicants will also receive a discount card giving access to thousands of offers on public transport, culture, accommodation, dining, sports and other services in participating countries.

Winners will be able to choose to travel alone or invite up to four friends to accompany them by sharing their successful application code, provided they also meet the eligibility criteria.

Applications are open until April 22. Since its launch in 2018, the program has attracted continued interest and has already received 1.9 million applications.
