Hospitals are facing an unprecedented overcrowding crisis. Nearly one in three patients do not require any care during the night and could be accommodated in a hotel rather than a hospital. It is to deploy the “hospital hotel” system, authorized since 2021 and reimbursed by Health Insurance, that Oteo was born in January 2023. Drawing on its experience within the care branch of the Accor group, notably responsible for testing the system hospital hotels, Léa Jakubowicz joined forces with Elsa Kiefer, EDHEC graduate and developer.

Oteo is a digital solution that helps hospitals outsource non-medical patients to hotels for the night. The Annecy start-up allows establishments to manage reservations, invoicing and reimbursement by Health Insurance for them.

Hospitals pay a monthly subscription to access and use the platform, while partner hotels pay a 12% commission on each night booked. It has already recorded more than 5,000 nights and has 12 clients, including the AP-HP (Les Hôpitaux de Paris), the Salpêtrière hospital, as well as large private groups such as Elsan and Ramsay. By 2027, it is targeting more than 50 partner health establishments, and one million euros in turnover.

By 2028, it hopes to have 170 client health establishments, more than 500,000 hospital hotel nights managed per year via the platform and an annual turnover greater than 7 million, confirming its positioning as a reference solution in France. HAS” We want to become the hospital Booking“, assures the founder, an emlyon graduate. The young company would like to extend its activities to other European countries, which have launched systems similar to France.
