The mayor of Cannes and president of Nouvelle Énergie announced his departure from the Republicans due to strategic differences. And the ambition to be a presidential candidate.

Until his departure from the Republicans (LR), announced Tuesday evening in Bruno Retailleau’s office, David Lisnard will have embodied the liberal wing of the movement. The mayor of Cannes and president of the Association of Mayors of France (AMF) has finally decided to distance himself from his political family. “I am leaving LR because LR has not simply left its ambiguities and the macronie. It’s that simple. It’s way beyond primary school.”he explained immediately, on the set of the France 2 television news.

The president of Nouvelle Énergie chose this moment to announce his desire to also enter the presidential race. “Je suis candidate”he assured then that LR members will be called to the internal polls on April 18 and 19 to choose a formula for nominating the candidate (internal primary, semi-open primary or direct support for the president of the party).
