On March 18, 2026, a terrible accident occurred at carrefour rue Pereire-et-Priolet, in Saint-Germain-en-Laye (Yvelines). Involving a heavy goods vehicle and a 37-year-old motorcyclist, the collision caused the death of the driver of the two-wheeler. A “face-to-face” collision.
In addition to the turmoil caused by the disappearance of the motorcyclist, a police officer at the Saint-Germain-en-Laye police station, this tragedy brought the site of the accident up in the list of points noirs of the municipality. Indeed, this sector of the RN 184, and more generally this crossroads where nearly 600,000 heavy goods vehicles pass per year, is regularly the scene of more or less serious accidents, when they are not tragic.

Request concrete and rapid measures ”

Well aware of this problem which was reminded to her in a manner dramaticthe City of Saint-Germain-en-Laye decided that it was time to shake things up.

Thus, the town hall sent a mail to the prefect of Yvelines, as well as to the prefect of ÃŽle-de-France, to “request concrete and rapid measures”. The Ile-de-France Roads Department (Dirif), manager of Ile-de-France motorways and national roads, was asked to secure this intersection and guarantee safety conditions for users.

We must have vehicles, heavy goods vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians coexist…

The closure of the Francilienne having little chance of seeing the light of day in the medium term, we must reflect on a sort of new urban boulevard where we must have light vehicles, heavy goods vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians coexist, explains Emmanuel Haïat, deputy mayor for Public Security, Health and Digital Affairs. This is currently being considered. »

“ It’s an exchange that we must have with the State and a certain number of stakeholders, to think about how to further secure this axis. ”

Moving towards “…sustainable and secure developments…”

The municipality is all the more attentive to the problem as the sector is experiencing development university important and that it is affected by the second phase of the Tram 13 express, known as Tram 13. Two developments capable of increasing the number of pedestrians and cyclists on this axis or its surroundings.

“We need to be able to calm this area through sustainable and secure developments. Beyond the speed aspect, there is also an aspect, for local residents, of noise and pollution. We must also take this into account. »

Three lines of thought for short-term actions

Parallèlement à ces démarches which, if they are heard, would most certainly not allow rapid realizations, the City is studying several avenues which could lead to the implementation of solutions in the short term.

First of all, the municipality looks at the ground marking both at the so-called Bel-Air crossroads (crossing of Albert-Priolet and President-Roosevelt streets) and where the dramatic accident took place.

“A lot of through traffic”

“These are axes where there is a lot of transit traffic,” adds Emmanuel Haïat. The reflection is to see what we can do in terms of marking on the ground to mark a certain number ofarrested. »

There are vehicles that turn left, that turn right, that go straight… Reviewing the signage on the ground seems to us to be an important point. ”

Emmanuel Haïat, deputy mayor for Public Security

The second avenue of reflection concerns the signaling. Here again, the City wishes to review or complete it to encourage drivers to “respect the Highway Code”.

Using cameras to verbalize

The third lever that should be activated is that of vidéoverbalisation. “ We have a global reflection on this axis to sanction bad behavior, templates which should not be there … ”

A weapon which could prove formidable knowing that the urban supervision center of Saint-Germain-en-Laye could detect these offenses24 h/24 and 7 jours/7via video surveillance cameras.
