(Togo First) – In Togo, the Project to support the agricultural financing incentive mechanism based on risk sharing (ProMIFA) is launching a program to develop 400 boreholes and market gardening perimeters, intended to strengthen agricultural production in rural areas.
In this context, training workshops are being organized this week, until April 3, 2026 in several regions of the country, including Maritime, Kara, Plateaux, Centrale and Savanes. They aim in particular to train technical advisors from the Institute of Consulting and Technical Support (ICAT) in infrastructure management.

This work should help to structure community management of the works, involving local producers at each stage. The trained agents will have the mission of identifying the actors, evaluating organizational capacities and setting up management committees around the market gardening sites.
This device also integrates digital tools, including the Kobo Collect application, used for collecting and processing field data. This information should guide the implementation of the next phases of the project.
According to officials, this program aims to improve agricultural productivity, particularly in the off-season. It must also contribute to job creation and increased income in rural areas.
Thus, for Amenunya Kokou Elolo, head of the development and infrastructure division at the rural development department of the Ministry of Agriculture, representing its director, the development of market gardening perimeters initiated within the framework of ProMIFA will allow producers to significantly and sustainably increase their off-season agricultural productivity. This, with a view to contributing to job creation, increasing economic income in rural areas, and then strengthening food and nutritional security.
Note also that the construction of 400 boreholes and associated infrastructure is part of the national strategy for modernizing the agricultural sector. It intends to reduce dependence on climatic hazards and strengthen food security.
Supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and co-financed with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), ProMIFA is today, in Togo, one of the public instruments dedicated to the financing and structuring of agricultural operations.
