Police Chief of Riau, Irjen Herry Heryawan, delivered 20 fishing machines to fishermen in Bokor village, Rangsang Barat district, Kepulauan Meranti district. This assistance is aimed at increasing the productivity of fishermen while strengthening the economy of coastal communities.
The handover took place at the Tantya Sudhirajati auditorium of the Kepulauan Meranti police on Tuesday, March 31. The machines provided included 10 units of Motoya brand and 10 units of Pro-Quip, received by 20 local fishermen each.
Herry stated that the role of the police is not only to maintain security and public order, but also to participate in efforts to improve the well-being of citizens.
“We are aware that the police’s mission is not only to maintain security but also to serve, protect, and care for society. Therefore, we must be able to provide a real contribution to help reduce the living standards of society,” declared Herry on Tuesday, March 31.
According to him, coastal communities have significant economic potential but require sufficient support in terms of resources to develop optimally.
“This assistance is hoped to boost the productivity of fishermen while strengthening the economic resilience of populations. We want populations to continue developing, be self-reliant, and be able to utilize all existing opportunities,” said Herry.
He also emphasized the importance of collaboration to promote sustainable development, including the involvement of various parties in opening economic and social access to populations.
“We can’t work alone. With human solidarity, we can open up broader access to the population in the fields of economy, education, and social welfare,” he declared.
In addition to the aid distribution, this activity is also linked to the planting of eight mango and honey mango seeds as part of the green police approach adopted by the Riau police, which aims to encourage a balance between economic growth and environmental preservation.
The head of Rangsang Barat sub-district, Jefri, said that the aid had a direct effect on the fishermen’s activities in his region.
“This aid is very beneficial for our fishermen as it can increase their activity and productivity, which has a direct impact on the well-being of the population,” Jefri declared.
A similar sentiment was expressed by the Kepulauan Meranti police chief AKBP Aldi Alfa Faroqi. He estimated that the aid was targeted and potentially capable of strengthening the local economy.
“The presence of the police commissioner also had a positive effect on public trust in the police, as shown by the public’s enthusiasm and the situation of activities occurring in a safe and conducive environment,” Aldi declared.
