Aside from Kliff, the main character of Crimson Desert, it will be possible to unlock two other playable protagonists with their own equipment and playstyle. Here is a dedicated guide to the imposing orc Oongka for unlocking him and some tips on how to play him wisely.

After Damiane, who is unlocked first in the Crimson Desert storyline, then comes Oongka who arrives later in the game, although we meet him in the prologue as a companion of Kliff’s Graymane tribe. The powerful warrior is somewhat of a barbarian archetype, but has more than a few tricks up his sleeve that make him a far more formidable fighter.

Like Damiane, you will need to progress in the main story of Crimson Desert at the helm of Kliff to add Oongka to the very exclusive club of playable characters in the game. More precisely, we can start playing him from chapter 7. Without giving away too much if you plan to discover the scenario for yourself, Kliff will no longer be available after a particularly tough boss fight in the first part of said chapter.

However, note that if you are also developing your camp in Crimson Desert, there will come a time when Oongka will not be playable, as he is “busy on another quest,” titled “The Gentle Murmur of Flowing Water,” during which he waits for Kliff to go fishing in the Pailune region. Once this is done, the third playable character of Crimson Desert will be fully available, except for select moments in the main storyline involving exclusively Kliff, indicated when you are in the middle of an “important quest.”

How to play Oongka, interesting skills and combat tips

Unlike the more agile and fast Damiane, Oongka is a true force of nature who can wreak havoc against hordes of enemies and elite opponents alike. While he can fight fiercely with a sword or axe in each hand, he also excels with two-handed weapons like large swords, axes, spears, or maces to inflict heavy damage, with slightly faster movements than the other two playable characters in Crimson Desert. He also has a long-range weapon in the form of an obliterator that causes devastating explosions in an area as well as on a single target.

He has his own skill tree, where you will need to either invest in precious abyssal artifacts (which we recommend keeping to increase your general stats or improve Kliff first), or observe enemies using them to acquire them. If you particularly like Oongka’s fighting style, there are a few techniques that are worth the investment, like the Beast’s Wrath or the Crushing, which are great ways to stun a group of opponents or very dangerous elite enemies without using crowd control. Skills related to martial arts or grappling, which we also find in Kliff, are also good to take.

Finally, even though the obliterator ammunition is expensive considering its power, you can also acquire skills related to it like Concentrated Shot, Piercing Shot, or Explosive Leap that are worth considering. However, focus first on developing Kliff and wait until you have finished the Crimson Desert story with him before delving deeper into Oongka.
