Young Surfer Tom Kostyra Remembered
Former member of the Surfing Hope Pole of the Brittany Surf League, the young surfer leaves behind the memory of a passionate athlete, deeply attached to the ocean, appreciated for his kindness and commitment. His passing has caused a strong emotion within the surfing community, both in France and in French Polynesia.
From Tahiti, Tom Kostyra discovered water sports at a young age. He trained with Julien Miremont, a former professional bodyboarder turned coach. At the age of 14, he moved to Strasbourg to continue his schooling, temporarily pausing his sports practice.
He quickly reconnected with his passion and joined high-level structures in Brittany, first through CLE, then the Surfing Hope Pole. Licensed in several emblematic clubs – including Hossegor, Lacanau, and the Santotcha Surf Club – he participated in numerous regional and national competitions, as well as some stages of the QS circuit.
For the past two years in Tahiti, he worked as a surf instructor, embodying a life project centered around the ocean. Surf Session extends its condolences to his family, loved ones, and all surfers, honoring the memory of a young man whose journey and personality have touched everyone who knew him.
