Tom Kostyra: A Talented Surfer Remembered for His Passion and Kindness

Tom Kostyra, a former member of the Esprit Surf Team of the Brittany Surf League, leaves behind the memory of a passionate athlete deeply connected to the ocean and known for his kindness and commitment. His passing has deeply moved the surfing community, both in France and in French Polynesia.

Raised in Tahiti, Tom Kostyra discovered water sports at a young age. He received training from Julien Miremont, a former professional bodyboarder turned coach. At the age of 14, he moved to Strasbourg for his education, temporarily putting his sports practice on hold.

Eventually, Tom reignited his passion and joined high-level structures in Brittany, starting with the CLE and later the Esprit Surf Team. Licensed in several iconic clubs like Hossegor, Lacanau, and the Santotcha Surf Club, he took part in numerous regional and national competitions, as well as some stages of the QS circuit.

For the past two years, he worked as a surf instructor in Tahiti, embodying a life focused on the ocean. Surf Session extends its condolences to his family, friends, and all surfing enthusiasts, commemorating the memory of a young man whose journey and character touched everyone who knew him.
