The SUP Race season opens with several important developments in the sporting regulations. The French Surfing Federation removes the French Open circuit, modifies the age categories and reviews the conditions of qualification for the French Championships. Objective: harmonize federal rules and strengthen the dynamics of regional competitions.

The National SUP Race Commission has made several adjustments to the sporting regulations for the 2026 season. Two major developments concern the age categories and the method of qualification for the French Championships.

First modification: the structuring of the youth categories. These now become U10, U12, U14, U16 and U18. Upgrades remain possible depending on the organization of the competitions. Thus, a 15-year-old competitor can register in U16 or U18. On the other hand, an athlete registered in U14 must not reach the age of 15 between January 1 and December 31 of the competition year.

The adult categories are also evolving. They are now structured around three age groups: over 40 years old, over 50 years old and over 60 years old. Concretely, a 42 year old competitor will only be able to register in 40+, while a 52 year old athlete will be able to choose between the 40+ or 50+ categories. From the age of 62, registration will be possible in 40+, 50+ or 60+. To be classified in Master 40+, you must be at least 40 years old on January 1 of the year of the competition.

Second important change: qualification for the French Championships. The French Opens will disappear this season and the selection will now be made based on a regional ranking, established at the end of territorial competitions or regional championships. It will therefore be enough to participate and be classified in these events to access the French Championships.

This development aims to strengthen sports activities in regional leagues while facilitating access to the French Championships. The principle is simple: participate in the regional circuit, be classified, then qualify for the national Sprint, Long Distance and Technical Race events.

Competitors are invited to contact their league to find out the regional circuit calendar. Also note that the French Championships for boards 14 feet and under will take place over three days, with the Technical Race, Long Distance and Sprint events on the program.
