Istres is a city where sports are without barriers. For its new edition, the Handi’Move Day is much more than just an awareness day. “It’s almost a sports festival for sports and disabilities,” says Arnaud Gébleux enthusiastically on Maritima Radio. The goal? Break taboos and show that sports are a universal playground.
More than 20 disciplines to discover for free
The Podium complex will come alive with the participation of 15 local clubs mobilized for the occasion. In total, over twenty disciplines will be available to try, from the most traditional to the most unusual:
-
Sports collectifs: basketball, handball, volleyball, and even walking football.
-
Precision and combat: archery, laser shooting, boxing, and adapted judo.
-
Sensations: rowing, tandem mountain biking, and equitherapy.
-
Paralympic disciplines: Boccia (a precision type of boules) and Cécifoot (football for the visually impaired).
“Putting yourself in someone else’s shoes”: an immersive experience
The strength of the Handi’Move Day lies in its concept: everyone, whether able-bodied or with a disability, is invited to participate in activities in “adapted” mode. “We will have everyone participate with a disability. The goal is to inform and sensitize the general public. By adapting the activity, anyone can participate, regardless of their profile, whether able-bodied or with a disability. In Istres, we are lucky to have facilities that can accommodate all audiences,” emphasizes Arnaud Gébleux.
Easy access to sports all year round
Besides this event, the Istres Municipal Sports Office facilitates long-term sports engagement. Arnaud Gébleux points out that a unique scheme simplifies families’ lives: “With just one registration at the Municipal Sports Office, you have access to all activities throughout the year.”
