Every day, Maritima Radio gives a voice to the actors who are making a difference in our community in the “C’est mon club” section. Today, we focus on a major solidarity and sports event: Handi’Move Day in Istres. On Wednesday, April 1st, the sports complex “Le Podium” becomes the center of a unique experience where able-bodied and disabled individuals push their limits together. Arnaud Gébleux, director of the Municipal Sports Office (OMS), presents the program.
Istres, where sports unite without barriers. For its new edition, Handi’Move Day asserts itself as more than just a day of awareness. “It’s almost like a sports festival for sports and disabilities,” Arnaud Gébleux enthusiastically shares on Maritima. The goal? To break taboos and show that sports are a universal playing field.
More than 20 disciplines to discover for free
The Podium complex will come alive with the participation of 15 local clubs for the occasion. In total, over twenty disciplines will be available for trial, from the classic to the most unusual:
- Sports collectifs: basketball, handball, volleyball, and even walking football.
- Precision and combat: archery, laser shooting, boxing, and adapted judo.
- Sensations: rowing, tandem mountain biking, and equitherapy.
- Paralympic disciplines: Boccia (a type of precision pétanque) and Cécifoot (football for visually impaired).
“Putting yourself in someone else’s shoes”: an immersive experience
The strength of Handi’Move Day lies in its concept: everyone, whether able-bodied or differently-abled, is invited to participate in activities in an “adapted” mode. “We will have everyone with disabilities participate. The goal is to inform and raise awareness to the general public. By adapting the activities, we can all participate regardless of our profile, whether able-bodied or differently-abled,” emphasizes Arnaud Gébleux.
An easy access to sports all year round
Beyond this day, the OMS of Istres facilitates long-term engagement in sports. Arnaud Gébleux reminds that a unique system simplifies the lives of families: “With a single registration to OMS, you have access to all activities throughout the year.”
