Every day, Maritima Radio gives a voice to the actors who make our territory move in the section “It’s my club.” Today, a spotlight on a major charitable and sporting event: the Handi’Move Day in Istres. This Wednesday, April 1st, the sports complex “Le Podium” becomes the center of a unique experience where able-bodied and disabled people push their limits together. Arnaud Gébleux, director of the Municipal Sports Office (OMS), presents the program.
Istres, sports combines without barriers. For its new edition, the Handi’Move Day asserts itself as much more than just an awareness day. “It’s almost a sports celebration for sports and disabilities,” enthuses Arnaud Gébleux on Maritima. The goal? Break taboos and show that sports are a universal playing field.
More than 20 disciplines to discover for free
The Podium complex will come alive with the rhythm of 15 local clubs mobilized for the occasion. In total, over twenty disciplines will be available to try, from the most classic to the most unusual:
- Sports collectives: basketball, handball, volleyball, and even walking football.
- Precision and combat: archery, laser shooting, boxing, and adapted judo.
- Sensations: rowing on rowers, tandem mountain biking, and equitherapy.
- Paralympic disciplines: Boccia (a form of precision petanque) and blind football.
“Put yourself in the other’s shoes”: an immersive experience
The strength of Handi’Move Day lies in its concept: everyone, whether able-bodied or disabled, is invited to practice activities in an “adapted” mode. “We will have everyone practice in a disabled situation. The goal is to inform and sensitize the general public. By adapting the activity, it is possible to practice regardless of one’s profile, whether able-bodied or disabled,” highlights Arnaud Gébleux.
Easy access to sports all year
Beyond this day, the OMS of Istres facilitates long-term sports engagement. Arnaud Gébleux emphasizes a unique system that simplifies family life: “With a single registration to the OMS, you have access to all activities all year round.”
