Guillaume Cizeron and Laurence Fournier Beaudry have just experienced a magical year. What future can we now imagine?
Wow, what a year! It is truly impossible to do better! Guillaume Cizeron and Laurence Fournier Beaudry, who formed their duo in early 2025, have ticked all the boxes of the objectives set out in their program. It’s simple, at the end of their first season skating together, the Frenchman and the Canadian (who became a French citizen for the Olympics) delivered a MASTERFUL performance.
After being crowned French champions, they were then named European champions. They then won the Olympic gold during the Milan-Cortina Games. Finally, on Saturday night, they became world champions in Prague. Did Cizeron envision this destiny when he announced in March 2025 his return to competition with a new partner, to everyone’s surprise? Most likely not.
First savor the moment
In record time, the 31-year-old man, who retired following the particularly painful end of his partnership with Gabriella Papadakis, created 2 very ambitious programs with Fournier Beaudry, his best friend in town, a 33-year-old woman. The result: a magnificent program, with fabulous artistic and technical levels that will impress all judges and captivate all audiences.
What will they do now? What do they want for their future? First, they must savor. The duo mentioned savoring this “suspended moment, which is one of those that one hopes to experience in a skater’s career”, as Cizeron put it. Honestly, wouldn’t it be nice to stop here? “I have no idea what we will decide. Everything in its own time. We have to wait for it to grow inside, so we can share afterwards,” the Frenchman revealed. These are conflicting feelings: we love what we do, but at the same time, it involves a lot of sacrifices. When the time comes, we must feel and respect it.”
Eyeing the 2030 Games?
Their coach, Romain Haguenauer, mentioned the idea of aiming for the 2030 Olympic Games, held in France, just as the duo had planned when they announced their partnership. “I won’t speak for them. But it’s not a secret, initially when they decided to skate together, the goal was to go until (2030). They will choose, they will see what they want. I am not announcing that they will continue, we’ll see. But it’s a first season, and I believe they can go even further. For me, this is just the beginning of the story.” Seeing the splendid duo be crowned in France in 4 years would indeed be so majestic…
