Coming out of the pool matches undefeated, challenged by Pignan in the quarterfinals, shaken by Fontaine in the first leg of the semifinals, authors of a fantastic comeback in the return match, the Bonbis dominated Limoges in the final to claim the national title in Saint-Chamont (31-17).
For this final stage, coaches Curci and Percherancier fielded the same team as in the previous round. The score was 0-12 at the end of the 1st round, then 18-13. In the relay, Yanis Gobin/Balti won the challenge by a small margin (37 shots to 36) and took the bonus on the second attempt like Simon in the progressive shooting event.
The EBSC scored one point more than Limoges in the precision shooting with Balti’s victory (16/11), while Alibert secured a valuable bonus (14-18), allowing the Bourguignons to enter the final traditional round with a score of 21-13.
Twenty years later…
A victory in four events was enough for the Bonbis to clinch the title. Percherancier dominated Guespin 9-2 in the singles, Van Helder/Fernandez did the same in the doubles with a score of 9-1, the triple was trailing 5-7 when Balti won his combination 16-15, sealing the victory and the French championship title for EBSC. Twenty years after their first collective title, Chenêve has turned Côte-d’Or into a stronghold of boule lyonnaise.
