Kylian Mbappé defended a fan who entered the field after the final whistle of the match between the French team and Colombia (3-1) on Sunday. The captain of the Blues intervened between the supporter and several security members on the sidelines of the match held in Landover, United States.
Although soccer is still struggling to make an impact against US sports, Kylian Mbappé is a star in the United States and was able to test his popularity during the American tour of the team before the 2026 World Cup. Substituted in for the last quarter of an hour of the friendly match won by France against Colombia (3-1) on Sunday, the captain of the Blues then found himself in a small incident with a young fan. After the final whistle, the fan rushed onto the field to approach the Real Madrid forward. Wearing a green French team jersey and likely seeking a photo or a hug with his idol, he was harshly tackled by a security member.
All this happened less than two meters away from Kylian Mbappé. In the front row, the Frenchman immediately intervened and tried to separate the fan from the security guards according to images filmed from the stands of the Landover Stadium in the suburbs of Washington DC.
Mbappé unsuccessfully tried to reason with the security
It was impossible to hear exactly what Kylian Mbappé said to the security agents. But his body language was quite clear. Obviously displeased with the way the supporter was tackled before being restrained, the French captain tried to pull the fan away from the security guards.
During his exchange with the agents, a member of the French delegation even came to film the scene. As if to keep evidence in case of a more serious incident, which ultimately did not happen.
Although he briefly got his way and posed for a few photos with the child who approached him, Kylian Mbappé could not prevent him from being escorted off the field by the security service.
Scoring against Brazil (2-1) and entering the final stages against the Cafeteros, Kylian Mbappé had a smooth international window with the French team. This is a good sign just over two months before the World Cup where the Blues will face Senegal, Norway, and the winner of the intercontinental playoff between Iraq and Bolivia. Three matches in Group I played in the United States where security is expected to be tight.
