After the two-all draw achieved by AF Biars Bretenoux against L’Union Saint-Jean FC, the Biars team was divided between the satisfaction of holding their own against a team aspiring to promotion to National 3 and the frustration of not inflicting the visitors their second defeat of the season.
“If we had been told before the match that we would get a point against this fine team of L’Union Saint-Jean FC, we would have taken it, but given the match scenario, there is ultimately some frustration. The players deserved better. The performance was good, but it’s frustrating not to have won this match,” commented AFBB president Julien Ruard.
Coach Patrick Gauthier, before the match against one of the powerhouses of Pool B in the Regional 1 championship, which had only suffered one defeat in eighteen matches, stated, “who has fast attackers, experienced players with refined and well-mastered game plans” – indicated that the AF Biars Bretenoux players were in the lead twice during the match.
“Encouraged by a large crowd that turned out again this Saturday and pushed their team, the players rose to the occasion. It’s a shame that we were pegged back twice in the score,” analyzed AFBB president Julien Ruard.
Responding early in the match, the Biars players, who did not concede any clear chances in the first forty-five minutes, opened the scoring three minutes before the break with a penalty converted by Keylian Teixeira after a foul by the visiting goalkeeper on Fabio Castelli.
“We played with our values”
“We retreated too much when we were ahead,” noted the president of an AFBB team that conceded the equalizer from a corner twenty minutes before the end after Lot goalkeeper Nathan Bouges saved a penalty from the previous action.
Continuing to stand tall against the visitors, the Lot players regained the lead four minutes from the end with a shot in the box by Edgard Lacombe. But the Haut-Garonnais, pushing on the Biars goal, equalized in the 95th minute with another corner kick.
“Against a very good L’Union Saint-Jean FC team, we played with our values with the support of our fans, but we made small mistakes that cost us against such a team. It’s up to us to eliminate these small errors to continue to grow,” concluded AFBB president Julien Ruard.
