Overnight, Paul starts carefully monitoring his wife’s behavior. Is she too pretty? Does she enjoy attracting attention too much? Increasingly consumed by jealousy, he catches her with one of her clients, Martineau, in a motel. He creates a thunderous scene with his wife. MARC LAVOINE MAKES DEBUT WITH CHABROL
“Do you play tennis?” “Yes.” “Perfect, the role is for you.” In 1994, the singer takes his first steps in cinema in front of the camera of Claude Chabrol. The director later said it was also “for his very natural presence, his insolent charm, his simplicity, and for his non-cinematic background” that he chose him to play the role of the seducer Martineau, the neighbor of the couple formed by Emmanuelle Béart and François Cluzet. He will be the trigger for this marital drama that examines the descent into hell of a compulsive jealous man.
Very impressed, Marc Lavoine remembers asking the filmmaker what he expected from him. “That you be on time on set and know your lines!” More than a formula, a precious mark of trust that he will never forget. “I apply this method every day,” Marc Lavoine likes to repeat, for whom there was clearly a before and after Chabrol. The Hell significantly helped to open the doors of the 7th art for him.
