On Friday, March 13, 2026, the motor skills room of the Jean-Louis-Étienne Public School in Argentré-du-Plessis (Ille-et-Vilaine) resonated with the sound of bombardes and bagpipes.
The musicians of Bagad Dor Vras came to meet the kindergarten students to introduce them to the instruments and Breton dances, as part of an educational project that will conclude with the organization of a fest-noz in the municipality on Saturday, April 4, 2026.
An immersion in Breton music
The entire teaching team is behind this project. “The idea is to connect with Breton culture and the roots of our territory,” explains Ennorha Patis, a teacher at the school.
The event will also highlight the bilingual Breton curriculum in the school and involve families in school life.
During the morning, five kindergarten classes took part in the intervention by Bagad Dor Vras. The musicians presented their instruments, explained how they work, and dismantled some elements to show the children how they produce their sounds.
The students discovered the bombard, bagpipes, snare drum, and various percussion instruments. The musicians also introduced a Scottish instrument, rare in Breton bagadoûs.
Between musical demonstrations, the children tried drums and joined in some Breton dance steps in a joyous and lively atmosphere.
This initiative allows the youngest to become familiar with Breton musical heritage while having a fun experience.
For Bagad Dor Vras, this type of intervention is also a way to pass on tradition to the new generations and inspire future musicians.
An open fest-noz for all
A fest-noz will be held on Saturday, April 4 at the Le Plessis Sévigné Cultural Center. Open to the public, the evening will start at 8 pm, with a special moment for children at the beginning of the evening.
Bagad Dor Vras will be there to make the children dance. There will also be a bar and food available on-site, with two food trucks and cakes prepared by families. Different groups will perform on stage: Aoustin / Bobinet, Drouadaine’s / Bougere, Kesako, and Les Mariolles.
Entry is set at 8 euros, with the option to purchase tickets via a QR code displayed on posters or directly on-site.
The funds raised will finance educational projects at the school, such as outings or discovery classes.
For the teaching team, this first edition is also an experience to test out. “It’s a bit of a challenge for us, but if it works well, why not repeat the event,” says Ennorha.
