Mario Montan has adapted the poems of Antonio Machado into music

Mario Montan has created a musical adaptation of the poems of Antonio Machado. The singer has molded melodies and arrangements that respect the concise and contemplative language of Machado. In the interpretation of the poems Caminante, La plaza tiene una torre, La noria, and So que tu me llevabas, Mario Montan’s voice converses with harmonic textures and explores the intimacy of the texts treated as soundscapes. The musical gesture emphasizes simplicity: pure vocal lines, guitar accompaniment that amplifies the echo of the verses.

The singer concluded the concert with a personal creation El Sitio: his tribute to Antonio Machado. Musician Mario Montan was the lead singer of the Confidencial group. A retired Spanish teacher, he is passionate about Hispanic literature.

Prior to the musical segment, Catalan artist and writer Manuel Menendez led a session dedicated to the Machado brothers: prominent figures in 20th-century Spanish literature.

Manuel Menendez discussed the fate of Antonio Machado and Manuel Machado, who sided with the Francoist camp in 1936, but remained bound by indelible fraternal ties and mutual respect.

These events, attended by a large audience, took place as part of the 6th cultural, republican, and trans-Pyrenean meetings organized by the association of former Spanish guerrillas in France – French Interior Forces.
