It was undoubtedly a musical moment that the Orchestre national de Lille (ONL) offered on Thursday, March 26 in the offices of France 3 to celebrate its 50 years. The ceremony took place in the presence of the vice-president of the Region in charge of culture François Decoster, the new general director of the institution Jean-Baptiste Henriat, and of course Jean-Claude Casadesus.

Democratisation

Founded in 1976 at the initiative of the latter, conductor, the ambition was to democratize symphonic music and anchor it in the Hauts-de-France, through a proactive policy of openness through decentralized concerts and educational actions focused on territories far from the traditional cultural offer. A successful bet, according to the ONL team.

The orchestra has also been able to renew itself. After nearly forty years under the direction of the founder, a new generation of conductors and musicians took over, inscribing the Orchestra in its time. This is evidenced by the statements of its new director, appointed last February: “We share a conviction: that of the indispensable role of the ONL as a powerful tool of a cultural policy that serves the inhabitants, a territory, and a vast symphonic repertoire where formats and aesthetics intersect“.
