Renowned figure in the Guyanese music scene and carnival, Renato Decater celebrated three decades of career during a special concert at the Sylviane Cédia hall – Le Zéphyr, in Cayenne. Performing solo for the first time on this iconic stage, the artist shared thirty years of creations, popular successes, and emotions with his audience.
A professional hairdresser turned musician by calling, Renato Decater discovered music at the age of 12, behind a drum kit, in the group GCE Maripas. The singer-songwriter then forged a rich and eclectic path, blending zouk, compas, mazurka, and biguine, alongside flagship bands such as XC Lens, Karnivor, and notably Les Mécènes, which he joined in 2005 as the lead singer. Through his compositions and constant presence in carnival events, the artist has been contributing to the vibrancy and evolution of the Guyanese musical repertoire for three decades.
For his first solo concert, Renato Decater revisited his most significant songs – Dèyè pié goch, Octroi de mer, Promesse – as well as his reinterpretation of Bay Mo, Mo Mang by Christian Sénérilis, a piece that has become inseparable from his artistic identity.
This anniversary concert also marked a reunion with artists who have marked his journey. Aminata Saint-Orice, Arnaud Champesting, Lauryne James, and Ariel Balthazar – back on stage after more than ten years away – as well as Orlane Jadfard and Josée Versol, hailing from Martinique, shared this exceptional evening with him for a heartfelt tribute to a unique career.
