The Vicat group has officially become the laureate of the Innovation Fund grant for its VAIA project. The VAIA project has received a grant from the European Union’s Innovation Fund program. The European organization CINEA has announced the list of winners of the Innovation Fund 2024 program, and Vicat’s VAIA project is among the recipients, receiving a grant of 149,998,000 euros. The project aims to capture and sequester almost all of the CO2 emissions, equivalent to 1.2 million tons per year, from the Montalieu-Vercieu cement plant in Isère, France. This project will also create a unique value chain for up to 4 million tons of CO2 per year, serving as the anchor in the Rhône Valley for a complete capture, transport, use, and liquefaction chain for CO2 storage. This contract confirms the interest and scope of this project, supported by the GPID (Large Industrial Decarbonization Projects) granted by the French government on February 12, 2026.
