From the early hours of Sunday morning, the streets and church squares were invaded by the faithful, branches in hand, who had come to celebrate a central moment in the Christian calendar. In an atmosphere that is both solemn and festive, songs, prayers and processions punctuate this symbolic day which announces the “passion of ChristHAS”. The blessing of the palms, the highlight of the celebration, reminded the faithful of the recognition of Jesus as King, welcomed with fervor by the people of Jerusalem.

“Palm Sunday is a great day that we celebrate every year to honor our God, who was crucified to pay our sinful debts.”confides, a deacon.

In the churches, the liturgy was marked by large attendance and rigorous organization. The priests insisted, in their homilies, on the profound meaning of this event: a call to humility, sacrifice and faith. “This celebration reminds us that Christ’s victory comes through the cross. Hence the triumphal entry of our Lord into Jerusalem. It prepares us to fully experience Holy Week.”relate the faithful of the Catholic, Methodist, Celestial Christianity, CMA etc. churches questioned at the end of mass, in Binao in the Tiassalé department.

On the side of the parishes of the Methodist Celestial Christianity Churches, CMA (Christian Missionary Alliance) etc., the celebration was intended to be both festive and spiritually intense.

The faithful, some dressed in white or blue, depending on religious affiliation, actively participated in a procession, songs and biblical readings retracing the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. “After a month of fasting, this day is for us a moment of joy and renewal. It reminds us that despite trials, victory is assured in Christ.”explains a church leader.

In these places of prayer, the Palm Sunday festival took on a particular dimension, combining processions, inspired songs, dances and fervent prayers.

The branches, blessed and carefully preserved, are seen as symbols of protection and divine blessing. The faithful see it as a tangible manifestation of the presence of God in their daily lives.

On the other hand, emphasis was placed on the recognition of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and on the personal commitment of believers. The sermons exhorted the faithful to remain firm in their faith and to prepare their hearts for the celebration of Easter.

“Palm Sunday is a triumph, but also the beginning of a path towards resurrection. This calls us to live an authentic faith”underlines a young faithful.

Between fervor, contemplation and hope, the Palm Sunday festival remains for Christians a moment of deep spiritual significance, announcing the victory of life over death and preparing hearts to celebrate, in a few days, the mystery of Easter.
