His Eminence Professor Nazir Mohamed ‘Ayyad, Grand Mufti of the Republic, attended the celebration organized by Cairo Quran Radio on the occasion of the sixty-second anniversary of its creation. He stressed that this prestigious station has been dedicated, since its founding, to serving the Book of Almighty God, carrying a noble mission of disseminating the tolerant teachings of Islam and anchoring moral values within society.
This statement was made during the ceremony attended by Professor Osama Al-Azhari, Minister of Awqaf, Professor Salama Dawood, President of Al-Azhar University, Mr. Ahmed Al-Muslimani, President of the National Media Authority of Egypt, as well as Mr. Ismail Doweidar, president of the Quran Radio network in Cairo, alongside a group of religious, executive and media officials.
His Eminence the Grand Mufti also emphasized that Cairo Quran Radio has always been – and remains – a meaningful voice that reminds human beings of the rightness of speech and action, at a time when certain behaviors move away from values and ethics. He indicated that humanity needs more than ever a speech which brings it back to the path of moderation and which implants in hearts the values of mercy and justice, inspired by the word of God: “Call to the path of your Lord with wisdom and good exhortation” (Quran, 16:125).
He explained that Cairo Quran Radio played a major role in the formation of religious consciousness and the development of correct understanding of the teachings of Islam. Throughout its history, it has contributed to making known the treasures of the Noble Quran through recitation, exegesis and meditation, and has worked to spread the culture of learning and teaching, in accordance with the words of the Prophet — peace and blessings be upon him: “The best among you is the one who learns the Quran and teaches it. Cairo Quran Radio thus continues to fulfill its mission of correcting concepts, spreading moderation and consolidating values, far from any material interest, seeking only divine reward and the service of the Book of God. His Eminence concluded by affirming that the Cairo Quran Radio will remain a forum of virtue and a beacon of guidance, fulfilling its role in achieving the objectives of Sharia law, training the virtuous man and strengthening social consciousness.
At the close of the ceremony, praise was addressed to the great reciters of the Koran who have enriched the Islamic scene with their voices imbued with devotion and their remarkable recitations, marking the memory of successive generations and contributing at the anchor of the prestigious Egyptian school of recitation. The ceremony honored a constellation of eminent figures of this sublime art, including: Sheikh Mohammed Rifat, Sheikh Mostafa Ismail, Sheikh Mohammed Siddiq Al-Minshawi, Sheikh Mahmoud Ali Al-Banna, Sheikh Abdul Basit Abdul Samad, Sheikh Mahmoud Khalil Al-Husary, Sheikh Kamel Youssef Al-Behetymi, Sheikh Mohammed Hossan and Sheikh Shaaban Al-Sayyad, in recognition of their eternal contribution and remarkable efforts in serving the Book of God and spreading its tolerant message throughout the world.
The participation of His Eminence the Grand Mufti in this celebration is part of Dar al-Ifta’s support for committed media which accomplish a noble mission of disseminating the true religion, consolidating the values of moderation and balance, and promoting an enlightened religious consciousness, adapted to contemporary challenges and protecting minds against deviation. It also reflects the appreciation of the religious institution for the historical role of the Cairo Quran Radio, considered as one of the major tools of soft power in the service of Islam, offering a balanced discourse which combines authenticity and modernity, contributing to the formation of conscious individuals and anchoring of religious and national identity in society.
