Praying for priests: this is the intention proposed by Pope Leo XIV this month of April. In his prayer video published this Tuesday, March 31, the Pope calls for prayer for priests who are going through moments of crisis. He particularly entrusts those for whom “loneliness becomes heavy”, whose “doubts darken the heart” and for whom “fatigue seems stronger than hope”. “Renew in them the certainty of your unconditional love”, the Pope asks God.
Often alone and overloaded, many priests can feel discouraged and experience their priesthood as a burden. In this regard, the Pope recalls that priests are not supermen, and that the Catholic community must “take care of them”. Neither “civil servants” nor “lone heroes”, they are “beloved sons, humble and beloved disciples, and pastors supported by the prayers of their people”, who sometimes also need to be listened to and supported. In this context, the faithful must learn to “give thanks without demanding perfection and accompany with closeness and sincere prayer”, recognizing that the care of priests is a responsibility shared by all the People of God.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Lord Jesus,
Good Shepherd and traveling companion,
today we entrust all the priests to you,
especially those who are going through times of crisis,
when loneliness becomes heavy,
when doubts darken their hearts
and that fatigue seems stronger than hope. You who know their struggles and their wounds,
renew in them the certainty of your unconditional love.
Make them feel that they are neither civil servants nor lone heroes,
but beloved sons, humble and precious disciples,
and pastors supported by the prayers of your people.Père bon,
teach us, as a community, to care for our priests:
to listen to them without judging,
to thank without demanding perfection,
to share with them the baptismal mission
to announce the Kingdom through gestures and words,
and to accompany them with closeness and sincere prayer.
That we know how to support those who support us so often.Holy Spirit,
ravive in us pr̻tres the joy of lՃvangile.
Grant them healthy friendships, fraternal support,
sense of humor when things don’t go as planned,
and the grace of always rediscovering the beauty of their vocation.
May they never lose confidence in You,
nor the joy of serving your Church with a humble and generous heart.
