“I am here to tell the government to listen to the teachers and understand their anger. If we are in the street today, it is not for nothing“, insists Mathias, a geography teacher from Gosselies. “With the reform of the common core, the two additional hours to be spent per week in upper secondary education, there is real instability in schools for the start of the school year“, he adds with his sign “The school needs stability, not chaos” on the shoulder.
Already present in the streets two weeks ago, many higher education students joined the procession on Thursday. “The increase in fees is a scandal“, they notably sang to the rhythm of a concert of pots and pans.
Starting from the Gare du Midi, the procession took the Petite Ceinture for a noisy first stop in front of the MR headquarters, protected by a large police cordon. The demonstrators must then go to the offices of the Engagés, before finishing in front of the government headquarters, Place Surlet de Chokier.
This joint event of all sectors of the FWB is the second in a few months. On December 15, there were already between 5,000 and 7,000 of them marching in the center of Brussels to denounce these same economic measures.
