CSDHI – NCRI calls for urgent international intervention as Iran steps up executions of alleged PMOI affiliates.
Iranian justice has confirmed the death sentence against political prisoner Mansour Jamali, sparking increased concerns over a new wave of executions targeting alleged members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI).
According to a statement issued on March 31 by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), the country’s Supreme Court upheld the execution order against Jamali, currently detained at Choobindar Prison in Qazvin. This decision places the prisoner in imminent danger of execution.
Jamali had already been sentenced to death by the 1st section of the Qazvin Revolutionary Tribunal for “hostility towards God” (moharebeh), on the sole basis of his presumed membership in the PMOI. According to opposition sources, the judge who presided over the case is Ismail Asadi.
Aged 55 and originally from Oroumieh, political prisoner Mansour Jamali was arrested in October 2023 in the town of Buin Zahra. Reports indicate that he suffered lengthy interrogations and torture during his detention. After about 15 months, his case was formally sent to court with the charge of moharebeh.
Crucially, Jamali was denied access to a lawyer of his choice throughout his detention and trial, raising serious concerns about respect for the rights of the defense and the integrity of legal proceedings.
The NCRI press release places the case of political prisoner Mansour Jamali in a broader pattern of increasing repression. He says Iranian authorities are increasingly resorting to executions to contain internal dissent in the face of worsening social unrest. According to the press release, at least four prisoners affiliated with the PMOI were executed in the days immediately preceding the Court’s decision.
Describing the current situation as a systematic campaign of political repression, the NCRI called on international bodies – including the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the UN Human Rights Council and the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran – to intervene without delay.
The organization urged these institutions, as well as human rights defenders around the world, to act urgently to prevent the execution of political prisoner Mansour Jamali and secure the release of all political prisoners currently under death threat in Iran.
As international scrutiny of Iran’s human rights record intensifies, cases like Jamali’s risk further amplifying calls for accountability and a globally coordinated response.
