Middle East: the trap of revenge? in replay

We thought revenge was relegated to the margins of History, disqualified after the horrors of the Second World War. A world of rules, international law and diplomacy had to be imposed. And yet… she comes back. Brutal. Assumed. Structuring. Israel and the United States make it the heart of their action in Iran, Lebanon, or Palestine. Everywhere, the same language: strike to respond, punish to dissuade. Behind the words security or stability, another mechanism is at work. That of an emotion, of an impulse, revenge, which has become a strategy. A strategy that justifies everything, that makes a war a morally just war. But a strategy which contains a major risk: that of an endless sequence, where each blow calls for the next. So is revenge becoming a rule of the game between powers? Can we still escape it? And refusing it, is today being in the camp of the weak?
