For Emmanuel Macron, “liberating” by force the Strait of Hormuz, blocked since the first hours of the conflict by the Revolutionary Guards, would be “unrealistic”.

Present in Seoul, South Korea, this Thursday, April 2, Emmanuel Macron estimated during a press briefing that “liberating” the Strait of Hormuz through a military operation would be “unrealistic”.

For several days, American President Donald Trump has been pushing for France to intervene in unblocking this strategic maritime crossing point, blocked since the first hours of the conflict by the Revolutionary Guards.

“It speaks too much, and it goes too much in all directions”

Emmanuel Macron also deplored that the American president says “every day the opposite” of what he said the day before. “It talks too much, and it goes too much in all directions. We all need stability, calm, a return to peace, it’s not a spectacle!” launched the French president.

Regarding NATO and the conflict in the Middle East, “we have to be serious, and when we want to be serious we don’t say every day the opposite of what we said the day before”, said the head of state.

Emmanuel Macron calls for a ceasefire

He also once again called for negotiation and a ceasefire with Iran, insisting that “this is not a targeted military action, even over a few weeks, which will make it possible to resolve the Iranian nuclear issue in the long term.

“If there is no diplomatic and technical negotiation framework, the situation could deteriorate again in a few months or a few years. It is only through in-depth negotiation, an agreement (…) that we can ensure long-term follow-up and preserve peace and stability for all,” he continued.
