A 20-year-old man armed with knives and smoke bombs injured several people on board a train Thursday evening, according to the authorities, who transferred the case on Friday to a unit specializing in politically motivated criminal offenses.
The state security section of the police in Bonn (west) took charge of the investigation into this case, a police spokeswoman told AFP on Friday, without giving further details. This section mainly intervenes in politically motivated criminal offenses.
Twelve people slightly injured
The spokesperson did not wish to comment on an article in the German daily Bild, according to which the suspect is a far-right activist known to the police. Originally from the city of Aachen (west), the young man is suspected of having lit pyrotechnic devices on a train linking it to Frankfurt am Main, lightly injuring at least twelve people, according to the police.
He was then locked in the train toilet by other travelers until the police arrived. One injured person was briefly taken to hospital for treatment. The alleged perpetrator was placed in police custody. During his search, officers found a mask, two knives and two over-the-counter smoke bombs.
