“We are constantly adapting and relocating our activities,” writes Médecins sans frontières in a press release. “Our team was forced to take shelter on several occasions. The current insecurity makes it impossible for MSF to provide a minimum of medical assistance to people who have come to seek refuge in Chad,” laments the NGO.

Most are refugees from Darfur “who have suffered extreme levels of violence, including targeted attacks on non-Arab communities, bombings and large-scale executions”, observes MSF.

Darfur, a region in western Sudan which borders the border, is almost entirely controlled by paramilitaries. On February 21, they claimed the capture of the border town of Tina, twin of Tiné in Chad.

That day, MSF was forced to leave the Mabrouka hospital due to the proximity of the bombings and fighting, and to transfer its activities to a new center.

In total, 38 people died in the MSF center, including 19 in a single day, March 16, following attacks at the border.

In addition to these recurring attacks, Tiné is currently facing a measles epidemic.
