The conflict in the Middle East “can have a direct effect in terms of terrorism on the national territory”, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu warned on Thursday, estimating that this war could also generate “a new form of terrorism”.

“A direct effect in terms of terrorism on the national territory†. Traveling to Bordeaux this Thursday, April 2, the Prime Minister warned of the consequences that the war in the Middle East could have on the country. Sébastien Lecornu specified that this was a “subject of major concern for state services”.

“New form of terrorismâ€

The Prime Minister talks about “hybrid threats†and even speaks of a “new form of terrorism†. Sébastien Lecornu explains that “the Iranian services†can “instrumentalize proxies†. In other words, remotely activate relays present on French territory to carry out these attacks.

The head of government makes direct reference to the foiled attempted attack against an American bank last Friday in the heart of Paris. An attempt following which the Minister of the Interior had requested increased vigilance towards Israeli-American sites: like banks, or even embassies.

A terrorist threat which particularly concerns the government during this Easter holiday period, both Jewish and Christian. So many events for which Laurent Nunez ordered the prefects to strengthen security, targeting in particular religious services and gatherings.
