Times are tough for James Deano, who says he is having more and more difficulty finding light subjects for his columns. And in fact, the least we can say is that the news is not particularly upbeat at the moment. This Monday, for example, the Israeli parliament voted for a law authorizing the death penalty for Palestinian terrorists. How can you laugh about such a subject?
For James Deano, it’s mission impossible: “Asking me to do a sketch about a guy popping champagne in parliament because he was allowed to hang Arabs from the balcony, forgive me for telling you that it’s still a bit difficult. […] It’s like playing Pictionary and I have to try to get you to guess the word ‘adrenaline’.”
Nevertheless, the comedian having no other subject to get his teeth into, he tries his best and decides to talk to us about this law on the death penalty, carried by the far-right minister Itamar Ben Gvir. He thus notes the irony of the situation, this minister having himself been convicted of supporting a terrorist organization in the past. “This means that if he was logical, he should have started by hanging himself.”relève-t-il.
But seeing that this doesn’t make anyone laugh, he prefers to end his column, and promises to come back with a happier subject next time. “I think I’m going to do something on the findings of Loana’s forensic doctor, it will be more fun”he promises.
