Washington, (SANA) US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the United States is approaching a decisive stage in its confrontation with Iran, specifying that the US administration is now setting a clear limit to its ongoing military operations.

“US military operations are aimed at preventing Tehran from developing intercontinental ballistic missiles,” Rubio said Tuesday in an interview with Fox News.

He said President Donald Trump’s policies are hampering Iran’s strategic ambitions in the region.

Rubio added that Washington will not tolerate the use of negotiations as a means to buy time, stressing that the military campaign against Iran will continue until an agreement guaranteeing the security of the United States and its allies is reached.

In the same context, Rubio affirmed that President Trump has a clear vision regarding deterrence and will not allow, according to him, the repetition of previous errors concerning the Iranian nuclear and ballistic files.

He also indicated that the majority of NATO countries do not wish to become directly involved in this conflict.

The Secretary of State said: “Once the US-Iran conflict ends, and while the war has raised questions about the usefulness of the Alliance, we will reevaluate whether this partnership, which has long served our country, still fulfills its role or whether it has become a path one-sided where America defends Europe without receiving the necessary support when we need it.
