A week after the second round of municipal elections, an executive from the Adama Committee notes the positioning of the movement on the political field, after the definitive dismissal of the Adama Traoré affair.

A week after the second round of municipal elections, Youcef Brakni, figure of the “Truth Committee for Adama”, claims on Facebook Sunday the election of several profiles from this movement created in 2016 by Assa Traoré, sister of Adama, who died on July 19 following an arrest by gendarmes.

In his message, he states that the “Adama Committee managed to elect several activists”citing in particular Fenda Diarra, who became deputy in Ivry-sur-Seine, Sonia Chaouche, elected to the Council of Paris, as well as Hidi Joubert and Jawad Amami in Beaumont-sur-Oise. A local presence that it fits into a broader strategy.

For the activist, the legal experience marked a turning point. After ten years of proceedings, the Court of Cassation confirmed on February 11, 2026 the dismissal of the case in the case of the death of Adama Traoré, making final the decisions expressed in 2023 and 2024. The family, which contests these conclusions, announced that it wanted refer the matter to the European Court of Human Rights.

The dismissal “was not an end” but “the beginning of a new stage”

In this context, Youcef Brakni explains that the fight could not “Focus only on the judicial aspect”at the risk of “lead to a dead end”. The movement, he continues, has therefore broadened its field of action, relying on “a broad alliance of struggles” in working-class neighborhoods. This development now translates into direct investment in the local political field. The activist describes an orientation towards “the concrete terrain of struggles for collective emancipation”with a clearly assumed objective: “taking power at the local level”.

The court decision, far from closing the case for the committee, is presented as a starting point. The dismissal “wasn’t an end”he writes, but “the start of a new stageâ€. That of an increased presence in institutions. “We must deploy ourselves in the spheres of power”he says, in order to “bring our cause directly” là «où se prennent les decisions». A strategy which involves both the ballot box and the structuring of the movement.

In parallel with these municipal victories, Youcef Brakni thus announces the continuation of political training work, with the development of «Génération Leaders»presented as a school intended for residents of working-class neighborhoods. For the anti-racist activist, these first local elections constitute only a milestone. “The municipal elections are only the beginning”he concludes, marking this progression over a long period of time.
