Jean Carlos Ramirez-Solano, 19, appeared in front of Manistee County’s 19th Circuit Court Judge David Thompson for rearraignment Monday.

Ramirez-Solano pleaded no contest to two counts of attempted safe breaking, a five-year felony. No-contest pleas are treated as guilty pleas during sentencing.

In exchange for his pleas, the prosecutor agreed to dismiss three counts of safe breaking and one count of possession of burglar’s tools. Safe breaking is a felony punishable by up to life in prison and burglar tools possession is a 10-year felony.

Court records show he was arrested on Jan. 21. His bond was set at $1 million on March 4.

Ramirez-Solano was returned to the custody of the Manistee County Sheriff’s Office and lodged at the Manistee County Jail after his court appearance Monday. His next court appearance has not yet been scheduled.

His town of residency was not immediately available.

Thompson noted that Ramirez-Solano is “facing an immigration hold by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), and he could be deported after the court case concludes.

Gerald Alessandro Rodriguez Pereira, 21, of Chicago, is charged with three counts of felony safe breaking for the same incident.

Court records show Rodriguez Pereira was arrested on Jan. 22. He was arraigned in circuit court and his bond was set at $1 million on Feb. 18. He remains lodged at the Manistee County Jail.

His next court appearance is a pretrial conference scheduled for 2 p.m. on April 20.
