A woman is taking legal action against American Dream Mall in New Jersey because she claims she was struck in the face by a knife while riding a Nickelodeon-themed attraction.

Xianghua Nan was on the Loud House ride in the Nickelodeon Universe Theme Park inside the mall when ‘a Swiss [Army] knife became airborne and struck plaintiff directly in the face,’ News 12 New Jersey reported.

The incident occurred on July 29, 2025, according to NJ.com.

Nan requested that the ride be halted and an employee retrieved the knife from the ride’s floor, as stated in the lawsuit.

She suffered bleeding and pain, and while receiving medical attention, ‘one of the defendant’s employees was observed laughing.’ Nan’s legal team asserts that this demonstrated a ‘disregard for patron safety.’

Nan was hospitalized for treatment of various injuries, including facial lacerations, bruises, spinal trauma, and back injuries, resulting in over $13,000 in medical bills, the lawsuit claims.

It remains unclear how the back and spine injuries were linked to the alleged incident, as court documents did not provide an explanation, as reported by NJ.com.

Her lawyers argue that there were no verbal instructions from employees for riders to empty their pockets.

The mall’s website prohibits knives and other weapons, including replicas, on the premises.

Mall officials declined to comment on the case when approached by NJ.com and News 12 New Jersey.

The Loud House Road Trip ride is described as a family-friendly magic carpet-style attraction, according to Coasterpedia.net.
