Amazon is implementing a 3.5% “fuel and logistics-related surcharge” on fees for third-party sellers using its fulfillment services, citing increased costs due to the ongoing Iran conflict. Effective April 17 in the U.S. and Canada, the surcharge aims to offset rising operational expenses in the industry. Amazon assured sellers that the surcharge, lower than others, is necessary to recover actual cost increases. Amid surging oil prices, including Brent crude reaching $107.35 per barrel, Amazon joins the U.S. Postal Service, UPS, and FedEx in adjusting to market conditions. The surcharge, calculated based on fulfillment fees, averages an extra 17 cents per unit for Fulfillment by Amazon shipments. Despite varying by item size, the surcharge aims to maintain Amazon’s seller success and pricing for customers.
